Countersthorpe Project Update – A Week of Solid Progress
At Jones Site Services & Installations, we take pride in delivering high-quality work with precision and efficiency. This week at our Countersthorpe site, our team has made significant strides in the construction and preparation of the FF chamber and surrounding infrastructure. Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished.
Strengthening the FF Chamber Foundation
A key focus this week has been reinforcing the FF chamber. We laid a robust 4.5m³ C50 concrete base, ensuring a strong and durable foundation. To maintain the necessary control of the filling shaft, 60,000 litres of water were carefully added, helping to manage stability as we progressed.
Following this, our team expertly stripped the kicker in the FF chamber, making way for the next phases of reinforcement. Rebar was tied as per the structural design, setting the groundwork for the chamber’s continued development. To facilitate safe and efficient work, we also installed an access scaffold, ensuring smooth access to the chamber for upcoming tasks.
Preparing for the Next Concrete Pour
Progress in the FF chamber continued with the installation of internal shutters and bracing ahead of the next concrete pour. This involved placing three 2m shutters and one 1.2m shutter, strategically braced to maintain stability. Given the structural requirements, the concrete will be poured in two stages to ensure optimal integrity.
Sheet Piling and Excavation Work
Our excavation team focused on reinforcing the surrounding area by installing pecker fill against sheet piles across three elevations—east, south, and west. On the north elevation, pecker fills were completed and reinstated up to +1m from the base, allowing for the addition of a 200mm over blinding layer. This step is crucial for us to secure the external shutters for the second wall pour, ensuring structural reliability.
Roadworks and Site Access Enhancements
To enhance site accessibility and stability, we carried out a 150mm reduction dig across a 250m² area of the access road. Following this, we laid 100 tonnes of Type 1 material to resurface and stabilize the road, making it more durable for ongoing construction traffic. Additionally, an extra 100 tonnes of Type 1 was delivered to maintain a well-stocked supply for future requirements.
Looking Ahead
With another productive week behind us, the Countersthorpe project is progressing smoothly. The upcoming stages will involve continuing structural enhancements within the FF chamber, completing the remaining concrete pours, and further strengthening site infrastructure.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push forward with excellence at Jones Site Services & Installations!
